Have you heard the expression “It’s water under the bridge before”?
Try to guess the meaning from these examples:
- Forget it mate. It’s water under the bridge now.
- He told me that he didn’t hold a grudge and that it was water under the bridge.
- We fell out years ago, but that’s water under the bridge now and we are back to the way we were before.
- It’s not water under the bridge for me. I still haven’t forgiven him for what he did.
In case you haven’t already guessed, the expression describes something that happened and cannot be changed, so there is no point in worrying about it any more. Would you like to give us some of your own examples?
